Enter height to estimate an ideal weight range.
Keep this in perspective
So-called ideal weight calculators are rough guidance tools. They can be useful for quick context, but they are not a verdict on health and they are not good at handling muscular builds or individual variation.
That said, these pages still pull steady search traffic because people want a starting point. Better to give a plain explanation than fake precision.
Typical use cases
- general health context
- rough target setting

What "ideal weight" actually means
The term "ideal weight" is misleading — no single number exists. Different formulas (Devine, Robinson, Miller) produce slightly different ranges, and all assume average body composition (muscle vs fat ratio). A muscular athlete and a sedentary person of the same height and weight have very different health profiles. BMI (body mass index) attempts to account for this by dividing weight by height squared, but BMI also fails for very muscular builds because muscle is denser than fat.
These calculators are useful for rough context — to know whether you are in a plausible healthy range for your height. But the real drivers of health are cardiovascular fitness, muscle strength, and body composition, none of which this number captures. Use the result as a starting point for conversation with a healthcare provider, not as a target to hit by any means.
Healthy weight range by height (BMI 18.5 to 24.9)
| Height (cm) | Min weight (kg) | Max weight (kg) | Note |
|---|---|---|---|
| 155 cm | 44 kg | 60 kg | Shorter adults |
| 160 cm | 47 kg | 64 kg | Average height (women) |
| 165 cm | 50 kg | 68 kg | Common height range |
| 170 cm | 54 kg | 72 kg | Average height (men, EU) |
| 175 cm | 57 kg | 76 kg | Above average height |
| 180 cm | 60 kg | 81 kg | Tall (men) |
| 185 cm | 63 kg | 85 kg | Very tall |
Frequently Asked Questions
Is ideal weight the same as healthy weight?
Not exactly. "Ideal" weight assumes average body composition and age. Healthy weight is determined more by fitness level, body composition (muscle vs fat), and medical markers like blood pressure and cholesterol. Two people at the same "ideal" weight can have very different fitness and health.
Why does build matter?
Frame size affects how much muscle and bone you carry naturally. A larger frame can support more healthy weight than a smaller one. That is why this calculator includes a build selector. Always adjust based on your actual body type, not just height.
What's more important: weight or BMI?
Neither is complete on its own. Weight is just a number; BMI accounts for height but assumes average body composition. If you are fit and muscular, both may put you in an "overweight" category. Focus on how you feel, your fitness level, and what your doctor says about your health markers instead.
